Makerspace Workshops

Fibre Café
Informal drop-in sessions are available for those with an interest in textiles on Wednesdays & Saturdays 1:00-3:30 pm. Suggested donation: $5. Bring your tools and a current project to work on while you trade ideas and experience ! Coaching and mentoring support is available on specific dates – please check the Fibre Café calendar.

  • Visible Mending

    Use your creativity to rescue worn, torn, or stained garments with simple techniques like embroidery, applique, or three dimensional patches. No previous sewing experience necessary. Bring your own garments or work on samples available here.

  • Kawandi Quilting

    Come explore Kawandi with us! Kawandi is an applique style of quilting practiced by the Afro-Indian Siddi communities in India. Use fabric scraps, a simple hand stitching technique, and your imagination to create colourful, one-of-a-kind quilts. Supplies provided but feel free to bring any of your own fabric scraps you would like to use.

  • Sweater Care Basics

    Have a sweater in your mending pile with holes or a missing button and not sure how fix it?  This workshop will take you through the basics of doing an invisible mend using Swiss darning, how to properly sew a button on a knitted garment, and how to wash a wool sweater. Bring your own sweater and yarn to work with, or practice on a damaged garment from our ReStore with our supplies. Participants should be comfortable threading and manipulating a hand sewing needle. Knitting experience is helpful but not required.
