Fibre Café
Informal drop-in sessions are available for those with an interest in textiles on Wednesdays & Saturdays 1:00-3:30 pm. Suggested donation: $5. Bring your tools and a current project to work on while you trade ideas and experience ! Coaching and mentoring support is available on specific dates – please check the Fibre Café calendar.

Straight Skirt Pattern Drafting
–Learn to transform a few simple body measurements into a perfectly fitting, customized paper pattern. You’ll draft a basic skirt block, learn about dart manipulation and seam allowances, and leave with a ready-to-use straight skirt pattern.

Introduction to Primitive Rug Hooking
–Discover the traditional techniques and simple tools used to create beautiful rugs, cushions, chair pads and wall hangings using recycled textiles. Make a small sampler in the workshop, inspiring more ambitious projects in future. Having learned in the UK, Gill enjoys passing on her experience and knowledge, preserving a venerable method for “no waste” textiles. All supplies provided.

Exploring Batik
–Join local artist, Larisa Bothma, to create a unique batik creation. Paint your own design with wax on upcycled textiles from GIRO and use dye to stain the fabric, exploring a technique dating back to the 13th century.

Textured Woven Wall Art (2 days)
–Transform recycled fibres into your own textured woven art piece in this 2-part workshop.
- Day 1, on May 23, will focus on warping an 8″x10″ frame loom, choosing colours and different materials, and learning basic weaves.
- On day 2, May 30, continue learning about different materials and basic weaves to add texture to your project.
All materials and looms will be supplied.
